IA has a diverse body of alumni who have been making their mark at home and abroad and we are proud of each and every one of them. Our alumni all indicate that their experience at IA not only has allowed them to move on successfully to the next step of their academic journey, but has helped shaped the way they interact with the world.
Our last in-person alumni event was in January 2023 where over 60 past students attended a networking event on campus.
Lamount is a 2017 IBDP graduate who majored in Chemistry at Lehman College, City University of New York. He was selected as a Schwarzman scholar at Tsinghua University in Beijing where he plans to earn both an M.D. and Ph.D. and become a physician-scientist who will improve LGBTQ+ HIV/AIDS healthcare and policy in
Antigua and Barbuda.
Racquel D’Ornellas graduated from Island Academy in June 2011 and went on to start Premedical Sciences at St. George’s University (SGU) in Grenada. She completed a 7-year BSc/MD Dual Degree Program at SGU graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Basic Medical Sciences and a Doctor of Medicine degree in 2019 . She is currently in her final year of her residency in Internal Medicine at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn New York.
Keion Liburd is 2020 CXC graduate who is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Georgia Southern University and is a member of several clubs including the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers.
Makhella Samuel graduated from the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) in 2011. She was one of the students in the first IB graduating class at Island Academy. After completing the IBDP, Makhella went on to study medicine at Escuela de Latino Americana de Medicina in Cuba. Today, she is a licensed doctor working at Mount St. John Hospital.
Jeffrey D’Ornellas graduated from the Grade 12 Ontario Programme at Island Academy (IA) in 2008. After leaving Island Academy, Jeffrey went on to Barry University where he majored in Biology. He then attended the University of the West Indies in Trinidad where he studied to become a dentist earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2020. Today, Jeffrey works in a leading local dental clinic where he practices general, family and cosmetic dentistry.
Janet Jack, a 2017 IBDP graduate is currently at the University of Guelph pursuing a Bachelor of Bio-Resource Management Degree with Equine Management. She has a small riding school in Antigua which she operates during the summer, and in winter while at university, she competes in show jumping competitions. She represents Antigua and Barbuda in Equestrian sports. She has competed successfuly in Canada, the US and in South America.
Alex is a 2017 IBDP graduate currently enrolled in the University of California in San Diego. He is pursuing a major in Cognitive Science with a specialization in Machine Learning and Neurocomputation. He will also minor in Computer Science. He is software team lead for a collegiate robotics team which competes in a competition every summer. He is interested in working with autonomous vehicles and hopes to start his own company.
2015 IB graduate Tiffany Samuel, recently completed her undergraduate degree in Accounting and Finance at the University of Kent in the UK. She also completed an internship at Rackspace Inc., an international cloud computing company where she worked in project management providing creative support.
Noah Peters graduated from Grade 11 at IA in 2013. In 2019, she graduated with a with a Masters in Interior Architecture and a certificate in Cruise Ship and Super Yacht Design from Florida International University and remains excited for all the opportunities ahead of her.
Careisha Whyte graduated from the IBDP programme at IA in 2012. In 2017, she graduated with top honours, earning a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Accounting and a Bachelor’s or Arts in Sociology. She completed this joint degree in 3 rather than 4 years thanks to the IBDP. She held many roles there including President of the Accounting Society, Ambassador of the general student body as well as the Secretary of the Caribbean Students Organization. At present she is a Financial Analyst at HP Inc.
