At IA we aim to encourage and promote a sense of confidence and an ability to communicate clearly and effectively. Since our first performance in 2001, Island Academy has set a precedent for high quality school productions involving character study, live music and singing, elaborate costumes, and dramatic set design.
Every year, we perform a major production open to the general public at the fully equipped theatre in St John’s (Cathedral Cultural Centre). It is usually performed for two consecutive evenings and attracts parents, dignitaries and a general audience. Every performance has received acclaimed reviews in Antigua’s press.
Drama is also part of school life outside the annual performance, with school assemblies providing a good opportunity for short scenes and public speaking practice.
